About Basic Refrigeration Heating & AC

Basic Refrigeration Heating & Air Conditioning is a family-owned HVAC contractor proudly serving Northern New Jersey from our home base at 414 Broad Street in Bloomfield.

Jeff Latawiec owns the company and still works in the field, which is how he likes it. We opened our doors in February of 1997, and we've been at it for twenty-nine years and counting and we've seen it all.  We do both commercial and residential jobs of all shapes and sizes.

We hold a New Jersey Master HVACR Contractor license, number 19HC00169500, and we've been BBB accredited since 2010. We're fully insured, and we serve ten counties across northern and central New Jersey.

What We Do

We work across six service lines, all of them under one roof. On the heating side, that means furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, and radiant and baseboard systems. For air conditioning, it's central air, mini-splits, and high-efficiency replacements. Refrigeration is where the company got its start, and it's still part of what we handle every week, residential and commercial both. We install and service ventilation systems, fabricate custom ductwork right on premise, and design air purification solutions for homes and businesses that need cleaner indoor air.
Plenty of HVAC shops do one or two of these well and refer the rest out. We do all six because the same training, the same tools, and the same trucks support all of them. The way we see it, a customer with a furnace problem in January and a refrigeration problem in July shouldn't have to keep two different contractors in their phone.

How We Work

If a repair will get you another five or seven years out of your system, that's what we'll quote. If your system is at the end of its life and replacement is the right call, we'll show you why before we ever ask you to spend money on it. Either way, you'll get a written estimate before we start, and the number on that estimate is the number you'll pay. No surprise charges, no upsells on parts you don't need.

We welcome second opinions, too. If another contractor told you that you need a new system and the price felt off, give us a call. We'll come look at what you've actually got and tell you, straight, what we'd do.

How We Show Up

We show up when we said we would. We explain what we're doing and why, in plain language. We clean up before we leave. If there's a question we can't answer on the spot, we'll go find out and call you back the same day. None of that needs a brochure. It's just how the work is supposed to be done, and after almost thirty years of doing it, we've gotten good at it.

Who We Serve

We cover ten counties across northern and central New Jersey: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Union, and Warren. Bloomfield is home, and most of our work happens close to it, in towns like Montclair, Newark, Glen Ridge, Nutley, Belleville, West Orange, Caldwell, Livingston, and Millburn. For the right job, we'll travel.

Our customers run the full range. We work on houses, and we work on restaurants, catering halls, office buildings, factories, and light industrial spaces. Some of the restaurants we serve are still customers from our early days. Some of the families we work for called us from new homes. That means more to us than any marketing line we could put on this page.
